These trowels are lightweight and easy to use on multi-finish, skimming and board finish plasters

The narrower SUPERFLEX2 trowels have a 4¾” wide blade and a longer bracket which makes the blade slightly stiffer. They are produced with a fine grade stainless steel blade

We now have leather trowel holders for the 12″, 14″, 16″ and 18″ SUPERFLEX trowels. These holders will help to protect your blade from being scratched and prolong the life of your trowel

The importance of a trowel in the land of plastering is like paint to an artist. It will make or break your finish and is the difference between an easy job or a hard, intense experience. That’s why I’m going to talk about the Refina Superflex and discover if this trowel is worth a space in my plastering toolbox.

This tool has created a lot of stigma in the plastering world. Why do you need a bunch of different trowels when one can do the job? Why spend out on money when you can just stick to your bog standard Marshalltown 14” trowel?

The old boys have got a point. Is this trowel worth buying from PFT Wales and why should I invest in something I don’t really need? I’m going to talk the pros and cons of this little bad boy and decide whether this is a trowel to believe in.

What are The Refina Superflex Trowels

This is a German made Refina Superflex Trowels which is made from an ultra flexible stainless steel and is extremely light. The blade’s thickness is 0.4mm and is tapered making it ideal for finishing (more on that later). It has a smooth, rubber handle and is very comfortable to use.

Now, that’s the logistics, let’s talk performance. Before I start going into the pros and cons I want to get something out of the way. This trowel is Awesome.

I can honestly say that this is one of the best towels I have ever used. Its comfortable, makes plastering a lot less stressful and provides an amazing finish time and time again. I love it!

However, there are a few things you need to consider, a few words of caution if you will. This is not a trowel to be used through the whole process of plaster.  let me explain by getting the small list of cons out of the way first.

Cons to the Refina Superflex

Now I’ve already stated that I love this trowel but there is something you need to know. This trowel should only be used on your final trowels of skimming. I have used this in the past to apply plaster, flattening and even scraping (big no go).

This is a big mistake. The Superflex is so flexible that it makes an awful job of flattening plaster and can leave tiger stripes. You won’t notice it but when the light shines sideways along the wall you will see the effects. It leaves ripples, stripes and a horrible looking finish.

It simply isn’t made for anything other than finishing. Trust me I’ve made the mistake!

It has also had reviews saying that the longevity of the trowel isn’t always the best. Some people claim that the trowel is often ruined after 2 years of use so maybe keep that in mind.

This is literally the only words of warning I would have on this trowel. If you bear that in mind and use it as a finishing trowel you will see nothing but good results. Let’s talk about the benefits!

Pros to the Superflex

Let’s start with the feel: It’s probably the lightest trowel I’ve ever used. Due to its lightweight steel and rubber handle, this trowel feels light to the touch and easy to use.

I also believe that its flexible blade on Refina Superflex Trowels provides an amazing finish to the plaster. You don’t need to use much water and it doesn’t take much effort to smooth the plaster down. The other great feature is that it comes pre-broken in (and I don’t mean Marshalltown standard “broken in”).

You don’t need to work on sand cement render for months to give the blade a nice, sharp break. It is ready to use from day one, giving consistent results from the get-go. The amount of time I used to spend breaking new trowels in was a joke.

The ultra-thin steel on the Refina Superflex makes the finish possible from the beginning.

There is one thing that makes this trowel worth keeping. My steel Marshalltown (when broken in) never let me down and is one of the best towels I’ve ever used but it does have one drawback compared to the Refina Superflex.

Is It Worth Buying The Refina Superflex Trowels?

Why do you need more than one trowel? As mentioned previous one trowel can do everything you need, do you need another one? I’m here to say you do!

Yes, it gives a good finish, yeah its comfortable to use and yes it’s generally quite cheap. However, the one thing that sets Refina Superflex Trowels apart from the rest is the ultra-flexible blade.

It takes all the tension and stresses out of plastering.

The amount of effort you need to put into getting a beautiful, matte finish is gone when using the Refina Superflex Trowels. It takes all the hard work out of skimming and does a thing that is worth its weight in gold.

Relieves you of the dreaded Tennis elbow! It won’t cure the effects because it is still a case of RSI but it will definitely soften the blow. It really is effortless to use and gives a seamless finish to your plastering. For that one reason alone I can honestly say that it’s worth using in your arsenal of tools.

Refina Have introduced in May 2020 the latest Rose gold superflex 3 skimming trowel. Its an absolute cracker of a trowel. The stiffer version of a flexible blade means its possible to actually lay on with this trowel aswell as use the benefits of a flexible trowel to finish the job.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][martfury_testimonial_slides autoplay=”yes” setting=”%5B%7B%22name%22%3A%22Mike%20Williams%22%2C%22job%22%3A%22Plasterer%22%2C%22desc%22%3A%22Got%20my%201st%20superflex%201%20back%20in%20the%20day%2C%20what%20a%20game%20changer.%20Next%20i%20couldn’t%20resist%20the%20superflex%20spatula.%20That%20saved%20me%20loads%20of%20time%20flattening%20my%20walls%20down.%20Everything%20Superflex%20is%20either%20better%20than%20the%20last%20or%20completely%20innovative%22%7D%5D” title=”Everyone loves a superflex”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
